Defensible Space for Lake Tahoe and Truckee- Davis Tree Management

Create a 5 foot non-combustible zone around house, decks and other attached structures. (Your local ordinance may require a larger zone)
Removal of all dead plants, grass and weeds.
Removal of dead or dry leaves and pine needles from your yard, roof and rain gutters. (forest litter)
Trim or remove trees to maintain 10 foot spacing from other trees.
Remove branches that hang over your roof and keep dead branches 10 feet away from your chimney.
Move woodpiles at least 30 feet from your house and cover with a fire resistant tarp.
Remove or prune flammable plants and shrubs near windows and doors.
Remove vegetation and forest litter that could catch fire from around and under decks.
Create spacing between trees and shrubs.
Remove the lower branches from trees to a height of 10 feet.
Cut wild grasses to a height of no more than 6 inches. (Remove all cuttings)
Create a 10 foot perimeter to non-combustible surface around propane tanks.
Any other work required by local ordinance.
